CREATIVITY

My Great Passions Is Creativity
My creative passion has fueled me through four entrepreneurial ventures and several specialty creative projects.
Decorative Painting by Alison Gilbert was a major entrepreneurial venture resulting from my creative passion. In addition, these four specialty creative projects resulted from my creative passion for decorative painting.

• Decorative Painting by Alison Gilbert
This was a unique artistic venture for me as a painter in that I used furniture as my canvas. Also, each project was one-of-a-kind. I primarily painted on reused and rescued wood. The furniture I worked with was usually real quality wood like maple, cherry, mahogany and oak. They were great old pieces that just needed some love and attention.

The 5-Step Decorative Painting System

1. Prep
2. Prime
3. Paint
4. Prettify
5. Protect

These five words essentially sum up the ‘5-Step’ or ‘5-P’ system of decorative painting that I developed. Old, worn but well constructed quality wood furniture and furnishings could easily be transformed. They were things that many clients considered discarding that I transformed into treasured possessions that became one-of-a-kind treasured, family heirlooms. Watch this video to see how it is done.

The 5-Step Decorative Painting System Manual
You can transform old, neglected but quality wood, metal and wicker furniture and furnishings into family heirlooms and treasured collectables.

This 5-step system is easy to understand and simple to do. It has many short cuts and money saving suggestions.

A list of supplies that includes inexpensive items rather than pricey decorative painting supplies is included. But when the pricier items the better choice, I will let you know. This is an indispensable manual.

You will feel like a professional after your very first project. The manual will be available in pdf format.

Recycled With Love Collectables
Using the principles, techniques and even occasional original designs from Decorative Painting by Alison Gilbert projects, I created Recycled With Love Collectables.

PLEASE NOTE: Recycled with Love Collectables and all other items are for decoration only and are not food safe.
Recycled with Love Collectables are small furnishings made out of:

• metal
• wood
• wicker
• plastic
• glass

The same ‘5-Step’ or 5-P method was used to reuse and decorate these items that were also in need of some extra loving care and attention. They also made great gifts and wonderful collectables for the home.

Wearable & Shareable Art
I’m a collector so I love collecting things. I also love to buy things like oilcloth, fabric edging, buttons, beads and mini flowers. Wearable and Shareable Art are wearable decorated vintage accessories that are great to collect and give as gifts.

Since I’m also a crafts artisan, I love to take things I collect and give them a personal touch. I do this by mixing and matching what I have on hand. It is so much fun to create new one-of-a-kind Wearables & Shareables from existing items that might not have been unique at all.

Two greeting cards illustrated for Family Line Cards
Two greeting cards illustrated for Family Line Cards

One day long ago I decided, ‘Why buy greeting cards? I can make them’. That was the beginning of an idea. I then realized if I could make cards, I could probably sell my designs. So I attended the New York Gifts & Greeting Card Show when it was still at the New York Coliseum. I brought my design portfolio with me. On that very first day, I sold my first greeting card to a lovely company called @Family Line based in Chicago. I sold them one additional card. Both are pictured here. That was back in the 1980’s before the NY Coliseum was torn down and the gigantic Jacobs Javits Center replaced it.
